My Suzuki GSXR-750, a complete history:Then in October, the unthinkable happened, I swallowed a valve in the #2 cylinder. It was real depressing. Turned out that Ken had the wrong valve guides installed, causing a valve to float, then get snapped off by the piston. Normally on a race build motor of this type, you can expect 2,500 to 3,000 miles out of it before major servicing/rebuild. This motor had between 6,000 and 7,000 of HARD miles on it by the time it went. I did all of the maintenance on it, but didn't know the intricacies of a finely tuned race motor. I wish I had been more educated. I am now.
After pulling off the smoked head October, 1993. I was smiling, but not really too happy here. I just felt my wallet sprout some serious wings.
I was working at ICS by then, so I had a place to store and work on it at least. I decided then to do a complete revamp of the entire engine. Since I worked at the dealer, I got all of my parts at 10% over cost, so I was able to get the best parts and not skimp on anything. A $3,000 loan helped too!

Some of the new parts. Tim Allen would be proud. With all of the parts together, I was totally stoked to get this thing up and running again. |
