Big R's Bike!

1987 GSX-R 750

GSXR-750

Before then engine went, Fort Jackson 1993.

My Suzuki GSXR-750, a complete history:

Then in October, the unthinkable happened, I swallowed a valve in the #2 cylinder. It was real depressing. Turned out that Ken had the wrong valve guides installed, causing a valve to float, then get snapped off by the piston. Normally on a race build motor of this type, you can expect 2,500 to 3,000 miles out of it before major servicing/rebuild. This motor had between 6,000 and 7,000 of HARD miles on it by the time it went. I did all of the maintenance on it, but didn't know the intricacies of a finely tuned race motor. I wish I had been more educated. I am now.

After pulling off the smoked head October,
1993. I was smiling, but not really too
happy here. I just felt my wallet sprout
some serious wings.
I was working at ICS by then, so I had a place to store and work on it at least. I decided then to do a complete revamp of the entire engine. Since I worked at the dealer, I got all of my parts at 10% over cost, so I was able to get the best parts and not skimp on anything. A $3,000 loan helped too!

I added the following parts to the bike at this time:

  • Wiseco 771 Piston Kit
  • S&S oversize steel valves (complete set)
  • Web Cams w/Roadracing Lift
  • Tsubaki cam chain
  • APE heavy-duty racing valve springs
  • APE heavy-duty cylinder studs
  • APE heavy duty cylinder nuts
  • APE Clutch safety switch cover
  • APE Manual Cam Chain tensioner
  • APE degreeable cam sprockets
  • Pingel Racing Fuel Valve
  • Oil Pump (ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA WHEN REBUILDING)
  • Oil Lines
  • Vance and Hines Power Pak
  • Barnett clutch + heavy duty springs
  • Accel coils + wires
  • Factory heavy-duty shift spring kit
  • Sprocket Specialties Aluminum sprockets
  • Tsubaki 530 Racing Chain
  • Metzeler MEZ2 Radials
  • Wheel bearings front and rear
  • EBC Race Compund pads

  • Some of the new parts. Tim Allen would
    be proud.
With all of the parts together, I was totally stoked to get this thing up and running again.
